nextNY Blog FAQ

Page history last edited by Charlie O'Donnell 14 years, 6 months ago

The nextNY blog features the leading voices of the technology and digital media industry in New York.

What's the mission of this blog?

The mission of the nextNY blog is to raise the profile of our tech community in New York, covering companies, ideas, events, people, advice, and anything else of interest. At our recent meeting covering the state of the technology industry in NY, one of the issues raised was that NY companies and personalities just don't have a very high profile. This blog is designed to help changed that.

How does the blog work?

Our previous blog had only a couple posts per month, but to really make an impact, we need more content, updated more often. The new blog is designed to make this happen with minimal extra effort.

In true “Web 2.0” fashion, our blog builds on user-generated content that’s already out there. It’s an aggregator, automatically pulling in posts from authors’ individual blogs.

Who can become an author?

Anyone who blogs about the technology and digital media industry in New York is welcome join up and post their content here. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a venture capitalist, programmer, designer, entrepreneur, or journalist, as long as you have an interest in the NY technology and digital media industry.

How do I add my blog?

  • Send your feed’s URL to one of the blog editors using this form.
  • For best results, your feed should not contain advertising, 'add to del.ici.ous' type links, copyright notices, or anything else besides your own well-polished prose. All of these things will show up on the nextNY blog and clutter it up. Feedburner feeds generally work best because our software can automatically clean them up.
  • To post:
    • In Wordpress, create a category 'nextNY'. Any post you categorize as 'nextNY' will show up on the nextNY blog.
    • In Blogger, enter 'nextNY' in the field 'Labels for this post'. Your post will show up on the nextNY blog.
    • Your posts will link back to your own blog, and your blog’s name will appear with each of your posts.

How long does it take for my post to appear?

  • The contributor’s blogs are polled periodically, so your post may not show up the moment you publish.

What are the guidelines for posting on the nextNY blog?

  • Posts must either mention the words New York and/or be about a New York company, event, or person… This is a blog about the NYC area tech and digital media industry and community, after all.
  • Stay positive— No ripping on other companies, cities, etc.
