Community Manager is a nebulous term. As a young industry that is almost entirely pre-revenue, we have been judged based on metrics that point to strong community. Registrations, pageviews, # of interactions, # of return visits per week, ect. A site's Community is clearly a valuable asset, and one in need of...something.
To address this need, companies are hiring full time Community Managers. Ask a Community Managers what they do, and they will likely provide a vague description that encompases many areas of a companies operation. As part of the NY Tech Community it seems important that those tasked with managing Community are supporting each other in defining exactly how that is done. This is a brand new discipline in poorly charted waters.
We scheduled to meet February 5th to discuss Community Management. We encourage all members who are Community Managers by title to join. Of course, if this is a subject of interest to you, all members of the NextNY are invited to attend.
